East Georgia Regional Medical Center Delivering Quality Care and More to Bulloch County and Southeast Georgia

Total Community Benefit Exceeded $214 million in 2024
STATESBORO, GA, March 28, 2025 - East Georgia Regional Medical Center provided care to thousands of area residents in 2024, with 300,000 patient encounters across its network of physician clinics and other outpatient sites of care. In addition to delivering safe, quality, compassionate healthcare, the health system is helping those in need, supporting charitable organizations and contributing to the area economy. In its most recent Community Benefit Report, East Georgia Regional Medical Center’s impact totaled an estimated $214 million in 2024.
In 2024, East Georgia Regional Medical Center demonstrated its commitment to the community by maintaining uninterrupted operations through Hurricane Debby, Hurricane Helene, and severe flooding from other storms. Thanks to proactive planning and securing surplus supplies, including mobile backup generators and fuel, the hospital sustained access to care, ensuring patients continued to receive the services they needed safely.
“Our work to grow and enhance the medical services we provide is ongoing, as we continuously improve our safety and quality and support access to healthcare for our community,” said Stephen Pennington, chief executive officer of East Georgia Regional Medical Center. “From providing care to our most vulnerable residents to supporting local charitable organizations, we are proud to make an impact on the health, well-being and quality of life in Bulloch County and Southeast Georgia.”
East Georgia Regional Medical Center’s emergency room provides lifesaving, medically necessary care at more than 51,000 patient encounters each year, treating all patients regardless of their ability to pay. In 2024, East Georgia Regional Medical Center provided $100 million in charity and uncompensated care and provided resources to help patients in need of secure medications and medical support devices.
The health system and its employees also support local organizations that make a difference, especially those addressing social determinants of health. Through service projects such as the annual Jars of Love Peanut Butter drive for Christian Social Ministries Food Bank and contributions to charitable organizations such as Safe Haven/Citizens Against Violence, Hearts and Hands Clinic and Habitat for Humanity, East Georgia Regional Medical Center gives back to the community throughout the year.
To enhance patient care and expand healthcare access, East Georgia Regional Medical Center is investing in medical services, facilities and technologies. Capital projects in 2024 totaled $12 million and other investments included adding two surgical suites and new robotic surgery equipment, supporting growth in cardiology, radiology, and urology further strengthening the patient experience by expanding access to advanced surgical care close to home.
The hospital has expanded specialized care by improving access through the opening of East Georgia Urology Clinic in the EGRMC Medical Office Building. The addition of two urologists and support staff has increased the availability of specialized urological care in the community, helping enhance the overall patient experience through more convenient, local treatment options.
“We are strategically applying our resources to help area residents have access to the care they need close to home,” said CEO Stephen Pennington. “These investments, along with our outstanding medical staff and employees, support our delivery of high quality medical care and services for a positive patient experience.”
East Georgia Regional Medical Center is one of the community’s larger employers with a payroll of $96 million. Support for the future healthcare workforce includes training the next generation of medical professionals. East Georgia serves as the teaching hospital for Georgia Southern University and Ogeechee Technical College. Through these relationships we continue to train over 400 healthcare students per semester for an even stronger healthcare workforce in the future. EGRMC also serves as a clinical site for medical school students, physician assistants and nurse practitioners to grow healthcare leaders in southeast Georgia. In addition to supporting the local economy through job creation, East Georgia Regional Medical Center paid $9.65 million in taxes in 2024, monies that support local infrastructure and civic resources.
