Statesboro is the county seat of Bulloch County, and the home of Georgia Southern University, Ogeechee Technical College, East Georgia State College and East Georgia Regional Medical Center. It's full of small town charm, but also pulses with new growth and development.
Statesboro, also referred to as "the Boro," is a unique place that oozes the charm of southern lifestyle while fully embracing the energy that naturally fills a college town. It has art, music, fine dining, parks and recreation, healthcare, great architecture and so much more.
The local economy is based on education, manufacturing, healthcare and agribusiness. The top ten employers include: Georgia Southern University (7,287 employees), Bulloch County Board of Education (1,742 employees), Bulloch County (1,033 employees), East Georgia Regional Medical Center (875 employees), Walmart Distribution Center (700 employees), Viracon (519 employees), Pineland Area Community Service Board (489 employees), Great Dane (490 employees), Briggs & Stratton (491 employees), Walmart Supercenter (388 employees), and the City of Statesboro (328 employees).
Statesboro's art scene is unique, blending the college vibe into a mix of art and music. The city is home to many restaurants, bars, live music venues, bookstores and coffee shops that cater to the creative atmosphere. Located downtown is the Averitt Center for the Arts, which offers classes in theater, music and art, and regularly provides live entertainment from the local area as well as from all over the world.
There are downtown events in "the Boro," in addition to the many parks and trails. Splash in the Boro, a family water park and aquatic center, brings people from all over to Statesboro. The Statesboro Main Street Farmers Market provides some of the area's best produce from April to November.
