Speech Therapy
Speech-language therapy rounds out the team approach to rehabilitation. The licensed speech-language pathologist assists patients from pediatrics to geriatrics, helping them regain and improve communication, cognitive and swallowing skills. Using a variety of oral-neuromuscular and cognitive-linguistic treatments, the pathologist treats conditions including: aphasia, articulation, voice disorders, stuttering and swallowing disorders.
A speech-language pathologist may provide the following services:
- Stroke and traumatic brain injury rehabilitation
- Aphasia, apraxia and dysarthria speech therapy
- Augmentative communication assessment and therapy
- Pediatric and adult neuromuscular electrical stimulation (NMES) swallowing therapy
- Modified barium swallow studies
